About LABMED

Joanna K. Norman, LABMED Web Chair

Shelby with a tennis ball
Shelby at 5 months old, "What is this yellow thing for?"

Joanna (Jo) is a scientist and educator by training and spends her work days at The University of Arizona's Southwest Environmental Health Science Center, where she coordinates a science education outreach program and designs educational web pages. Joanna and her husband Paul are the proud parents of a two year old yellow Lab named Shelby. Two cats, Charlotte and Heidi, also share their home and tolerate Shelby.

In her free time, Joanna is a nature freak and likes hiking, bird watching, and camping. When the weather is not good for being outdoors, she happily spends her time sewing and quilting or singing folk music. Shelby is Jo and Paul's first dog of their very own and the three of them are training in obedience, agility, and field work. In addition to training, Joanna and Shelby spend many hours just relaxing together. Jo says that her daily walks with Shelby keep her life centered and keep her in shape!
