Mia Lane Lab Print Raffle

LABMED is pleased to announce that a beautifully framed limited edition print has been donated for LABMEDs latest raffle project by Nora Sullivan. Nora, of Avonlea Labradors, is Vice President of the Lake Erie Labrador Retriever Club and owner of Aaron, a LABMED-funded dog.

This print, titled Motherhood by Canadian artist, Mia Lane, features a beautiful yellow Lab poised gracefully on a rock surrounded by her five adorable pups playing at the waters edge. In the artists own words: The idea for "Motherhood" came after I had given birth to my two children. The whole experience was a major milestone in my life and I tried to portray that pride and joy and protectiveness one feels as a mother in this piece. You can see this expressed in the mother Lab, as her puppies play under her watchful eye. The showy Irises are one of my favourite flowers. The beautiful Irises my mother grew at the cottage inspired me. Their blue and purple colours compliment this scene. The image size is 19 inches x 22 inches and is beautifully framed and matted.

picture of MiaMia Lane has been drawing and painting since she was old enough to pick up a pencil, and from then sketching and painting became something of an obsession. After graduating in Technical Illustration from Sheridan College in 1976, Mia worked as a designer and illustrator, gradually making a transition to fine art. Her work is both highly regarded and widely collected. In addition to many other noteworthy awards and commissions, it has been recognized by the Canada Post Corp., which issued four "Dogs in Canada" stamps of Mia's designs in 1988, and by Ducks Unlimited Canada which has honored her with its "National Artist" award in 1991.
