Artist's comments: This quilt block was inspired by a photo on the "hunting" page of the Chelons Labs website (Thank you to Chelons Labs for generously granting permission to base my quilt block on your photo). The background was pieced by machine, using landscape quilting techniques. The yellow Lab, duck and ribbon were hand appliquéd and enhanced with machine-stitched details. I had the opportunity to observe and then participate in a hunting trial this year and was astounded by the instincts of my own dog (from Chelons and Chardon lines) and by the joy that she exhibited when retrieving. We'll probably never compete for ribbons, but this scene seemed just perfect for this year's theme of "Labradors at work and play."
