Southern California Beach Dogs

Artist: Lisa O'Malley
Technique: Dogs and palm tree created with fabric applique. Water is made by using translucent ribbon. (Lisa says, "This was important to me because one of the most amazing things about labs is watching them paddle away in the water.") The rest of the picture is hand embroidered.
Artist's comments: My quilt block was inspired by my parents' Lab, Kodi, and my dog (lab-x), Seamus. Their most favorite activity is going to Huntington Dog Beach to swim in the ocean, play ball, and chase birds. Before we even reach the beach, both of them are quivering with excitement as they begin to smell the salt air. They swim like seals - Kodi actually dives through the waves and will go under water. They hide their balls in the sand and dig them out, which creates great obstacles for the joggers. And, generally have a great time. They are true Southern California beach dogs.
