Success StoriesBruin, January 2003Bruin, a handsome chocolate male Lab, was fortunate to find a new home through the services of Miami Valley Lab Rescue near Cincinnati, OH. Bruin's adopter soon noticed that her new companion was limping and contacted MVLR for more information. When the vet records were obtained, it turned out that Bruin had been injured some months previously, but the original owners had not shared this information with the rescue organization. Bruin had a torn cruciate ligament and was in need of surgery to repair his knee. The prognosis was favorable for a complete recovery if Bruin could have the surgery. His hips were fine and he was in good health in every other way. LABMED was contacted for financial assistance. According to our published guidelines, LABMED cannot contribute substantially to non-emergency orthopedic surgeries such as knee reconstructions or total hip replacements. However, we were able to help with the funding of the diagnostic x-rays and other tests for Bruin. Bruin's surgery was successful and he was sent home to recuperate in his wonderful new home, ready to enjoy his second chance in life. |
