Success StoriesDuke2, March 2002Duke is a young, yellow Lab in Michigan. His family brought him in for euthanasia when he developed a serious problem with paraphymosis secondary to strangulation of the base of the penis. The family surrendered Duke to the vet clinic instead. Duke's injury required the amputation of his penis. LABMED funded the surgery for Duke, and he was cared for by an assistant at the veterinary hospital where his surgery was done. Duke wound up having to have a second surgery when some of the sutures pulled loose, but then recovered well. At last report, there were several people interested in adopting Duke. The rescuers were screening applicants to insure that Duke lives out the remainder of his life with the perfect family. Duke now has a second chance. |
