Success StoriesJan, November 2001The Lake Travis Labs: Jan and JettaTwo female black Labs swam up to the boat of a couple who were sailing on Lake Travis near Austin, Texas, last August. The girls were doing what Labs love to do--having a cooling swim in a nice lake--but there was a problem: no owner was to be found. The boating couple took them in and discovered both had injured feet from walking on hot pavement. A trip to the vet uncovered that they were both heartworm-positive and that they were sisters estimated to be about two years old. The rescuers decided to name the larger one Jan and the smaller one Jetta. The rescuers made many attempts to find the girls' owner, but never received a response. Needing help with the expense of treating two dogs for heartworms, they contacted LABMED for help and we voted to fund treatment for these two sweet girls. Jan and Jetta came through their heartworm treatment with flying colors and have found a new owner. The two swimming sisters will be living happily ever after!
