Success Stories

Leigh, September, 2001

Leigh Leigh is a 1-2 year old female black Labrador Retriever who was found by a solo rescue person in the Savannah, Georgia Animal Control. Leigh had been at the shelter for the maximum time allowed and had gone unclaimed. The foster person was struck by Leigh's gentle temperament and loving nature. Therefore the decision was made to pull Leigh from the shelter and take her into her rescue. When Leigh's general health check was performed, however, it was discovered that Leigh was positive for heartworms. Because Leigh was asymptomatic and had an excellent prognosis for recovery her foster owner decided to treat the beautiful young Lab.

The foster's veterinarian agreed to treat Leigh's heatworm disease at a discount and a local kennel owner with a warm heart for Labs agreed to allow Leigh to stay at her kennel for free during the treatment.

The applicant applied to LABMED for funding th help pay for the heartworm treatment. LABMED was impressed by this solo rescuer's arrangements and happily agreed to fund. Leigh came through the treatment well and was especially happy to get spoiled with Wendy's chicken sandwiches during her treatment!
