Lexie, June 2004

Lexie is the June Buddy Arnold Memorial Fund Dog

As written by Lexie's applicant:

Lexie

"I would like to take a few moments of your time to tell you how LABMED has helped my family.

In April we found the perfect lab to add to our family. Her description on the internet fit what we were looking for, so I called to set up a time to see how she interacted with my three year old. After spending time with Lexie, I decided she would be good with my kids and so we adopted her. We were told she still needed to be spayed (she looked like she had pups a few months ago) although her bio said she was already altered and up to date on shots. When I took her to the vet three days later we discovered that she was not up to date with shots and she tested heartworm positive. I was worried we were going to have a real hard time funding her treatment and the spaying yet I couldn't take her back to that place.

Lexie

Thanks to LABMED we were able to get her the medical treatment needed. Besides being heartworm positive, Lexie delivered a surprise litter of puppies a few days after her first heartworm treatment (sadly most were still born and none of the others survived long) but she now is doing very well and is like a different dog. Her energy level has totally turned around. She plays with her toys we bought her the first day we had her. I wasn't a dog person before her, now as I watch her play hard with my husband and switch automatically to a soft play mode with my three year old I am truly amazed. Every time I think about why anyone would want to give her up my eyes start to water.

Thank you so much to LABMED for the funding and e-mail support through our roller coaster ride. We are so very thankful to both LABMED and our vet for giving Lexie another chance. Our family could not imagine life without her."
