Ruby, January 2003

Ruby

It was just an ordinary day at a pet store in Myrtle Beach, SC, when someone came in and reported the sad plight of a young yellow female Lab. This poor dog was suffering from an infected and prolapsed uterus which had gone untreated for several days. The alarmed pet store employees checked out the situation, and found Ruby and her two puppies near death. The owners, who could not afford to pay for Ruby's care, were willing to turn Ruby and the pups over to these rescuers. Ruby was rushed to a vet, and the puppies were placed in foster care for bottle feeding until they were old enough to be adopted.

Ruby's prolapsed uterus was removed and her infection treated. As if she didn't have enough troubles, Ruby also tested positive for heartworms. Her rescuers contacted LABMED for assistance in paying for Ruby's care, and we were happy to be able to help this gentle Lab. The rescuers worked to raise funds for Ruby's care at the pet store, also, and the treating vet provided a substantial rescue discount. With so many folks on her side, Ruby's chances for a wonderful new life are excellent! As soon as she has recovered from her heartworm treatment, Ruby will be in the market for a new family to love her and keep her safe and well.
