Success Stories
Shadow, October 1998
Shadow, a 6 year old black Lab, had been in the Bloomington, Indiana shelter for two weeks with no
one showing any interest in him. Members of the Central Indiana Labrador Rescue and Adoption were contacted, and Shadow was released to them for fostering and adoption. During his veterinary exam, it
was determined that Shadow was suffering from calcified ear canals, the result of long-standing untreated ear infections. So extensive was the calcification, that his hearing was severly impaired and
the outside of his ears are hardened. Shadow was examined by a specialist who recommended that both ears receive lateral transection surgery, an expensive procedure which CILRA could not entirely
fund. LABMED was contacted for funding assistance, and within a few days the decision to fund was made, and Shadow is slated to receive his operation on Nov. 2nd. Be sure and check back to read a
status update on Shadow after he has had his operation.
