Success StoriesSierra, May 2003
In a new version of "neighborhood watch", Sierra's neighbors in Marino Valley, CA, noted that the 5 month old chocolate pup was not being properly cared for by her owners. The sweet-natured little Lab was limping from a leg injury that had gone untreated. One day, the owners decided that they were tired of having a dog and proposed taking Sierra to the local pound. The neighbors stepped in and took Sierra to a local vet clinic instead! Sierra would need surgery to repair the injury to her leg. This became a true emergency situation because the vet clinic could only hold the pup for a short time unless payment for the surgery was assured. The neighbors contacted United Animal Nations for help. UAN offered to partially fund the surgery, and put the rescuers in touch with LABMED. LABMED quickly voted to help pay for Sierra's surgery and Sierra's second chance was guaranteed. Sierra's story has a very happy ending - she was adopted by the neighbors who cared enough to step forward and save her life. With her leg properly repaired, Sierra can look forward to an active and happy life in her new home. |
