Success Stories

Tanner3, November 2001

Tanner3

Tanner is an adult chocolate male who had most likely been beaten and hit by a car. He had scars that were consistent with having had his muzzle wired shut, had a laceration on his tail and was not using one of his hind legs when he arrived at a shelter in Tennessee. He was diagnosed with a dislocated hip and severe muscle atrophy on the leg of that hip, most likely due to an old injury. A shelter volunteer, who also works with Lab Rescue of East TN, applied to LABMED for assistance in helping with the cost of the needed surgery -- amputation of the injured rear right leg.

After Tanner was recovered from his surgery, he was a guest on a morning news show where his new mom saw his story and contacted the shelter about adopting him. The abuse this gentle dog suffered is behind him and he is now in his forever home having adjusted well to the loss of his leg. He apparently walks his owners instead of the other way around! They report that his coat is absolutely beautiful and his personality is endearing.
