Winnie2, September 2001
Winnie2 is a young, black Lab girl that was found at a gun club in Florida. Winnie was very pregnant when first discovered. When she was rescued, she had eleven two-day-old pups. Two pups had already died, and one later died of pneumonia. The rescuer raised and placed the remaining ten pups in permanent homes.
Winnie was heartworm positive when found and needed to be treated for her heartworms, but that had to wait for her pups to be weaned. Winnie finally had her heartworm treatment and developed some complications (arterial thrombosis) from that. She was a very sick Lab for a little while. Winnie did survive the treatment and is now happy and healthy. The rescuer will keep Winnie in her home permanently.
LABMED is happy to have had a part in helping give Winnie2 and her ten puppies a second chance at a happy, healthy life.
